Event Details

As part of a national tour for Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative, Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser will visit Washington state August 20-21 to conduct free arts leadership symposia in Seattle and Tacoma.

Hosted by ArtsEd Washington, these symposia will help us all make the case for the relevance and continued existence of arts organizations in Washington state. In other words, why arts and why now?

SEATTLE: Thursday, August 20 | 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Benaroya Hall's Nordstrom Recital Hall | 200 University Street, Seattle

These symposia will be aimed at engaging arts organization staff, trustees, volunteers, and funders, as well as leaders in the arts education community, in the discussion around sustainability.

Each symposia will include:

  • Opening remarks from Congressman Norm Dicks who represents Washington’s 6th Congressional District and serves as Chairman of the House Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee;
  • A 90-minute conversation with Michael Kaiser moderated by Andrea Allen, Seattle Repertory Theatre Director of Education and Past President of the ArtsEd Washington Board of Directors;
  • A 30-minute meet-and-greet session with Mr. Kaiser.

Light refreshments will be provided. Please register for this free event by Wednesday, August 19.

Mr. Kaiser's visit is generously supported by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Venues and hospitality are generously provided by the following partners: 4Culture, Benaroya Hall, Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, Mayflower Hotel, The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, The Seattle Foundation, Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, Tacoma Arts Commission, and the Washington State Arts Commission.
